Terminal Intelligence

Container Terminal Performance & Risk Monitoring

MIP Mersin Uluslararası Liman

Context

Mersin International Port (MIP) is Turkey's largest container port and a key Mediterranean hub. Syntask applied its intelligence framework to publicly available MIP operational data — including aRMG crane performance metrics, terminal throughput records, and vessel call patterns — in the context of the EMH2 terminal expansion.

Data source

Publicly available terminal operational data and port authority reports — Mersin International Port (MIP).

The problem

Terminal expansion creates new data — but without intelligence, that data doesn't translate into better decisions. Crane performance degrades silently. Throughput bottlenecks form before they're visible to operations teams.

MIP's EMH2 expansion increased capacity but also increased operational complexity. Crane utilisation variance, inter-block move efficiency, and berth allocation decisions require continuous intelligence — not weekly reports.

Syntask Approach — Key Findings

Every finding is labelled — and the label is part of the answer.

  • VERIFIED

aRMG performance baseline established across EMH2 operational zones. Move-per-hour variance identified across crane units — highest performers vs. flagged units separated.

  • VERIFIED

Vessel call pattern analysis: berth utilisation pressure windows identified. ETA deviation rate calculated — delays above 4-hour threshold flagged.

  • INFERRED

Red Sea disruption signal: Mediterranean-origin vessels showing schedule stretching consistent with Cape rerouting. Feeder frequency impact on MIP berth allocation assessed.

  • INFERRED

Throughput forecast: seasonal peak window identified for summer months. Capacity stress probability calculated per terminal zone.

  • RISK

Inter-block move inefficiency cluster detected in specific EMH2 zones — consistent pattern suggesting scheduling conflict rather than equipment failure.

Business value

What this changes on the ground.

Crane Performance Monitoring

Underperforming units identified before throughput KPIs are missed — maintenance scheduling becomes proactive.

Berth Allocation Intelligence

Congestion windows visible 2–4 weeks in advance — vessel scheduling and berth assignment can be optimised.

Expansion ROI Tracking

EMH2 performance benchmarked against baseline — terminal management can quantify expansion impact in real time.

Limitation

Analysis conducted on publicly available MIP data and published terminal reports. Customer deployment would integrate directly with terminal operating system (TOS) data for real-time intelligence.
